Nokia IPSO Boot Manager Upgrade Instructions

{LANG_NAVORIGIN} Firewall CheckPoint
Mitchell Rowton 02/21/2004

As the title suggest I documented this process while upgrading an IP330, these steps may or may not be the same for other Nokia IP products.

Download file
Go to https://support.nokia.com and download the boot flash (nkipflash.bin) from the IP330 software downloads area.

Enable FTP
Inside Voyager click "config" then "network access and services" then "security and access configuration." Click "yes" in the "allow FTP access field." Apply and save these changes.

Transfer file
From the workstation that contains the nkipflash.bin file, begin an FTP session with the Nokia platform, ensuring you are in the /var/admin directory. At the prompt enter "bin" and begin transferring the file with a "put nkipflash.bin"

Upgrade boot manager
Close the FTP session and log into the Nokia device via console cable. Remount the root file system in the write mode by entering "mount "uw /"

Copy nkipflash.bin to the /etc directory by entering "cp nkipflash.bin /etc"

Reboot the Nokia by entering "sync; reboot"

When the device reboots enter the boot manager startup (option 1)

Boot the platform in single user mode by entering "boot s"

Select "sh" as the shell

Enter "/etc/upgrade_bootmgr wd0 /etc/nkipflash.bin"

Reboot the IP330 and remount the root file system in the read mode with reboot"

Boot Manager has now been set as the default boot mechanism; restore the defaults to IPSO by entering "set-defaults"

Enter "halt"you will then be prompted to "press any key to reboot" reboot now.
