Windows NT 4.0 was deemed C2 compliant on 02 December, 1999, as a result of an extensive survey performed according to the Trusted Computer Systems Evaluation Criteria, the United States Department of Defense analysis protocols. The famed Orange Book review means that DoD service components and agencies are authorized to use NT 4.0 as purchased "off the shelf" for government and military sensitive information.
